How I Work New Trends Into My Wardrobe
Kate BrownFashion keeps shifting and I like using it as a quiet way to show who I am. New styles roll in each season and I often feel like trying something different. The trick for me is to bring trends in without going overboard. Here is how I go about it.
-
Start Small
If loud prints or bold shapes are not my usual, I do not jump straight in. I begin with an accessory such as a scarf, a bag or earrings with a punchy print. A leopard print scarf with a plain coat or bright floral studs with my everyday gear gives a lift without feeling like too much. -
Mix New with What I Already Own
To keep things balanced I pair new pieces with my regular favourites. A shiny blouse with black jeans or tailored trousers feels fresh but not fussy. I also like playing with texture, for example denim with satin or linen with leather, for a bit of contrast. -
Pick Pieces That Pull Their Weight
If a trend catches my eye I look for items I can style a few different ways. Cargo pants or an oversized blazer can swing from casual to more put together, which means they earn their spot quickly. -
Add a Hit of Colour
When I am drawn to a pastel or a bit of shimmer I add a top, shoes or an accessory in that shade into rotation. Colour can lift an outfit and my mood, so I give it a go and see what feels right. -
Lean on Texture
It is not only about shades and cuts. How fabrics feel matters. I like mixing velvet, leather or lace to add interest without shouting. A textured piece can do a lot of the work. -
Wear It on Ordinary Days
I do not save the fun stuff for Saturday night. I test new ideas on a work day, a weekend wander or a coffee with mates. The more I experiment, the sooner I figure out what suits me.
Working new trends in is not hard yakka. I try things, keep what feels good and skip what does not. It is my wardrobe, so I make it work for me.
